1. Synopsis of my multimodal presentation

My multimodal presentation focuses on Joel Sartore, a National Geographic photographer and conservationist best known for founding the Photo Ark in 2006. The Photo Ark is a long-term project that photographs animals living in zoos, aquariums, and wildlife sanctuaries so people can see the importance of protecting species before they disappear. Sartore’s portraits often place animals against simple black or white backgrounds, which makes the viewer focus on the animal’s eyes, body, colors, and personality instead of the environment around it. National Geographic reports that the Photo Ark has photographed more than 17,000 species, showing how large and serious this project has become. Through these images, Sartore turns photography into more than art; he uses it as a tool for education, conservation, and emotional connection. His work shows that even small or overlooked animals deserve attention and protection.

2. How reviewing Joel Sartore’s work changed my perception of photography

Reviewing Joel Sartore’s work changed my perception of photography because it showed me that photography can do more than capture something beautiful. His photos are artistic, but they also have a purpose. They bring attention to animals that many people may never see or think about. Before learning about him, I mostly thought of wildlife photography as taking pictures of animals in nature. Sartore’s work made me realize that a simple portrait can still tell a powerful story. By removing the background and focusing only on the animal, he makes each species feel important. His work also showed me that photography can connect science, conservation, and creativity. It can help people care about real-world issues in a visual and emotional way.

Great presentation! The voice is clear and the images you chose clearly and visually help to explain the presentation of Sally Mann above. Her work is both somber yet it helps to capture the viewer's interest almost like you are reaching into the photo and trying to garner a feeling of understanding and empathy. I like how you tied back the previous lesson of categories into the video itself to give the video that much more detail. Overall I liked the video and this is not the first time I have seen Sally Mann's work.
